Scan the recipient, then check the transfer
The announced service covers money sent from one person to another, known as P2P transfers. In the process described by BSS, the recipient’s QR code removes the need to copy their details. Users still check the information required for the transfer after scanning.
Bangladesh Bank presents the service as a way to simplify everyday transfers and reduce reliance on cash. These are the central bank’s aims. The launch alone does not establish adoption levels or its effect on cash payments.
A shared standard for participating providers
Interoperability is the purpose of the scheme: enabling transfers between different services through a shared national standard. Dhaka Tribune describes a scope covering participating commercial banks, mobile financial services and payment service providers. The newspaper says integration into their apps was due by 31 October 2026.
That deadline is not an inventory of apps actually available. The sources consulted do not provide an exhaustive list of operational providers or full fee conditions for every user. Anyone wishing to use Bangla QR should check the feature and its terms with their provider.
Bancontact, Wero and Bangla QR: scanning relies on the service
The gesture is familiar in Belgium. Bancontact dates the launch of its mobile QR payments to 2014, as explained in our Bancontact retrospective. Wero also states in its help on transfers to friends and family that a recipient can present a QR code to request an amount, with confirmation in an account-linked payment environment.
These processes share a usage principle, which does not establish compatibility between their networks. The Bangladesh launch does not announce a connection to Bancontact or Wero. The QR identifies a request or recipient within the intended system.
A general-purpose generator therefore cannot create a banking-compatible Bangla QR on its own. As explained in the guide to how QR codes work, the symbol carries data whose meaning is interpreted by the app. Qurl can create a QR containing a link or text, but does not provide registration with the Bangla QR network or execute or confirm money transfers.
